It’s time to go deeper.

It’s time to let how we feel be self-directed instead of dictated by the media, current events, or social media. It’s time to go within.

Is this putting your head in the sand? No. It’s choosing to think for yourself. To put yourself energetically onto a higher vibration. To decide what will guide you — chaos and fearful thoughts, or love and hopeful thoughts.

Nelson Mandela famously said, “ May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears. “ How do we practice this when it seems that fear surrounds us? When it seems that…

There are so many hilarious meme’s right now that speak to the various ways we are all emotionally dealing with this crisis. The extremes range from letting ourselves completely go (chip crumbs in your bed and all) to being annoyingly positive and productive. I find myself somewhere in the middle. With a three-year-old at home, there are no twice a day workouts or leisurely sourdough bread-making sessions, but there are thirty minute workouts most days and messy cookie or brownie-making sessions on weekends (of course followed by eat-what-we-bake sessions).

I find myself fluctuating between more of a coping mode (what…

Take a deep breath. Right in this moment. Let’s start by taking lots of these frequently throughout the day. Being aware of and slowing our breath is the starting point for shifting ourselves towards a lighter, more grounded energy that will sustain us through this time.

We are all on a train into a very uncertain time period. Some of us are in the locomotive (the front of the train where the driver sits :)). We’ve been in on what’s happening early, have been keeping up to speed and have been…

A love letter to the women in my life

I didn’t have female mentors until much, much later in my life. Maybe I thought I knew better and didn’t really need them. Maybe the right person didn’t cross my path.Maybe I didn’t have any idea of what to look for in a guide or mentor. But today, I am surrounded by wise, strong, powerful and inspiring women. Some I’ve known for decades, others entered my life at pivotal times, while others I’ve known for barely a year (but somehow they’ve already become some of my closest confidantes). …

“We have a tendency to overestimate what we can accomplish in a year but underestimate what we can do in ten.”

Have you heard that saying? I have heard and read this many, many times, but it only recently sunk in. Year after year my list of annual goals got longer and longer, and by the end of the year I’d made some progress (maybe) in a few areas (kind of) but nowhere near what I’d written down.

Don’t get me wrong, we can make a lot happen in one year. We can even change our lives completely within the…

Hint: It all starts with a simple question

What would love do?

I came across this question at the end of an article I was reading about love. I was reading about love because I wanted to understand how something as simple as increasing our capacity to love (even when it’s not easy) can better our world. I wasn’t just interested in how to better love our partners or our families or our friends. But also how we can collectively make the world a better place through the power of our love.

I wanted to know how we can use…

There are many people in my life who have either recently experienced the loss of someone close to them or who are expecting a loss soon. When I hear this news, regardless of how close we are, I pause and feel their grief wash over me. One day someone is here and the next day they are not. How do we process that? How do we move through the days leading up to the moment when our loved one passes and how do we wake up the next morning without them and continue through the days beyond that?

I am…

And beautiful, transformational and magical too

Happy New Year! I hope you woke up this morning feeling refreshed and hopeful.

How was 2019 for you? If you read the news regularly, you likely feel that the world falls somewhere on a scale between a complete mess and total anarchy. I find this way of thinking so disheartening. Every year has its good and bad, its sadness and joy, its low moments and bright spots. It is a very personal thing as well — some people may have had a much harder year than others depending on where they live in…

Drinking Greenhouse smoothies in the park — my daughter’s idea of fun. :)

Following my last post about why I’m adding fun to my to-do list, I received so many notes from you sharing that you too struggle at times to be in the moment and truly have fun. It was nice to know that I’m not alone but also made me feel sad that this is the case.

Why aren’t we having more fun?

A few weekends ago, I went on a short holiday to Montreal with my Mom, sister and our two babies. While out for dinner in Old Montreal at a lively Italian restaurant, an ambulance raced up to the front of the building and parked…

As I’ve shared here before, my thirty’s were not what I imagined they would be. I’d planned for them to be about growing a family, settling down in a home, travelling and excelling in my career. Instead, they were a time of unimaginable events, sadness, stress and loss. I know what it feels like to have to dig deep, deeper than you ever have before to find some peace. To smile a genuine smile. To feel hope.

When I came through that time, all I wanted was some sense of normalcy. I didn’t want to go on an around the…
